Ferrisburg, Vt. — The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will reopen to the public on Saturday, May 17, 2025, kicking off a season designed to inspire curiosity and deepen connections to local history. This year, the museum continues its commitment to accessibility, offering free admission to all visitors.
Located in Ferrisburg, the museum features more than 10 exhibit buildings, an archaeology lab, and a variety of interactive experiences. Guests can explore topics ranging from the region’s maritime commerce and recreation to historic conflicts and communities shaped by the lake.
New this year is the exhibit “Underwater Archaeology: Diving into the Stories of People and Canal Boats on Lake Champlain.” The display highlights discoveries made through underwater research, revealing the lives of those who once lived and worked on canal boats.
Another highlight includes the Hazelett Small Watercraft Center, a favorite among boating enthusiasts. This two-story gallery celebrates small watercraft and features the impressive ice yacht Storm King.
Returning this season is the museum’s popular Revolutionary War exhibit, “Key to Liberty: The American Revolution in the Champlain Valley.” It will be open from May 17 to July 6, after which it will close for renovations. The exhibit is set to reopen in May 2026 in time for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
